  1. That's great George!! Finally some good news in CE!
  2. Wow!! That's shocking in a bad way! We can't post "No ATVs" on Crown Land as we don't have control over it. It appears that ATVs can run OFSC trails on Crown Land without permits and there is nothing we/you can do about it. So, one could technically take an off road mini excavator or a recreational bulldozeršŸ˜‰ out on the Crown Land trails in the summer and play around and there's not much you could do about it. Check out the Buckhorn club FB page as it is being discussed. I guess we were wrong. It feels like such a waste of time and $$$ for the amount of volunteering we do, to have the base or groomed trails destroyed by ATVs. I may have to reconsider my involvement in the club. Thank you Sean for the quick replies.
  3. Trail permit required 2.1 (1) No person shall drive a motorized snow vehicle upon a prescribed trail except under the authority of, and in accordance with, a trail permit for the motorized snow vehicle issued under subsection (2) or except on lands occupied by the owner of the motorized snow vehicle. 2000, c. 30, s. 3. Can't this MSVA section be used against ATVs as they don't have a "trail permit" to be on the Prescribed Trail? I understand ATVs are not "snow vehicles". Figure there may be some wiggle room in there.
  4. Morning Sean Is there any update on ATVs riding on OFSC Prescribed Trails on Crown Land during snowmobile season? Can they be charged with trespassing? Thanks, Dan
  5. Dennis Rodman. Buddies with "Rocket man". One less war to worry about.
  6. Missed the house! We'll see what happens when it heads our way in a couple of days.
  7. Can some of you please take Trump or Biden out snowmobiling and show them that there is life outside of politics at their age?
  8. Would like to see a 700/750 as well. That's a happy power range for many. Offer something that the other OEMs don't. Be unique.
  9. I would assume AC does. Everyone is a retard in his eyes. Generally try to ride with people who have a similar riding skill level. Keeps the frustration down. Be on time, be prepared, full tank of gas and have cash. Nothing else matters.
  10. Maybe something that no other OEMs have? For some the 600cc is too anemic and the 800+cc is too much. Decent fuel economy and power. How about a 2S in the 135-145hp range(F7) that is currently occupied by the 4S out there? Work their way up to the 850+cc. Maybe mid-season reveal. Nah, that would be thinking outside of the box. They don't do that anymore.
  11. Good insights. Thank you! Fortunately we have a great group of guys and there is good camaraderie with the volunteers, new and seasoned. We do have good relationships with some of our local businesses. They will help us out with tree removal that is out of our comfort zone, provide gravel and equipment, etc pro bono. Plus some of our followers on our FB/club page will just take on trail work on their own close to their home/cottage. We also have a very good relationship with the local ATV and OF4WD clubs as some of our trails are shared. The cost of bridge rebuilding, gravel, grading, etc of the shared trails is usually shared among all the user groups. However, I don't know why, but it always seems that the sled clubs in our area do all the shared trail bridge rebuilds...lol.. We need it more than them I assume, because we need them to be safe for our groomers. The other user groups usually send one or two people to assist which is appreciated. IMO. It's tough when a club's finances are limited to use it for food and drink after doing trail work, bridges, etc. However, it is something to be considered on occasion. We used to do on trail BBQs (pain in the ass to do, hauling all the equipment 5km down the trail to the main trail intersection) and pancake breakfasts at the clubhouse(not on the main trail). Covid squashed it and we haven't restarted it. It was no charge but we would take donations. May be something to look at again. Like all you guys, we are all just volunteers. It's unfortunate, in this day and age, that we have to use "carrots" and all the extra time, effort and $$$, to entice people to help out. However, it may need to be done to keep the trails alive.
  12. Was in Costco today and followed too many silver/grey/no haired folks pushing carts at well below the posted speed limit. Also the "stay in the right lane unless passing" rule was constantly violated. Fun to watch from a distance but not so much when you get boxed in for an extended period of time and there is no escape!
  13. Hmm, looked in the mirror and didn't see one. So the answer is no! I don't bleed blue, red, orange.... I'm one of those pesky swing voters that make up 25% of the electorate. We are the ones that determine which way the country goes. You're not helping your blue team! Try harder!
  14. Both are horrible. Just like our friends to the south. Not one adult in the room. Sad. Will be fun come election time. So much baggage in PP's closet will be coming out. Liberals will have a field day. Memes will be endless! All of Trudeau "accomplishments" the past 8 years will be PP's bread and butter. More memes. Will be nasty but will provide good fodder for the CE forum. Mad Max may make a comeback with these two quality individuals running!
  15. Hmm. Didn't know Maui had so many spruce and pine trees there but it's been over 30 years since I was there last. Will have to take notes when I go again.
  16. I run the FB page for our club. I post everything we do with lots of pictures and a good write up about what was involved and acknowledge all the volunteers by their first name. It gets good reviews and we have 850+ followers and it does help getting new volunteers out. We have 5-6 core volunteers(executive) that are out on all/most work days and then we have about 20-30 other regular volunteers that come out a couple or a few times a year. However, the biggest issue for many clubs is it's hard to get volunteers to step up to the executive positions and without those positions being filled, there is no club.
  17. Doug We get good snow here pretty much every year so that is not a real issue for us. P51mstg We are always recruiting but nobody wants to get too involved, ie executive board. We get decent turnouts, average 7-10 people but different faces each time, on volunteer call outs but it's hard to get anybody to commit to the amount of hours needed to operate the day to day activities of the club. Hard to be "aggressive" for volunteer positions that involve a strong time commitment and the responsibility that comes with it Open to suggestions tho!
  18. Would rather see Health Canada/Ontario MoH/OHIP put funds towards needles etc for diabetics. Probably a better ROI. Good chance the people using the safe injection sites aren't paying much in taxes. Better chance a diabetic is a productive member of society. If the government is offering free needles for recreational drugs, they should be offering free needles for life saving drugs. It's not right in my opinion. Have a good friend who pays over $1000 a month for his diabetic wife's needs. Both self employed.
  19. I'm the young guy in our club at 55. Most are mid 60's to mid 70's. Even on big volunteer call outs for a bridge replacements, tree removal after storms, etc, most of the time I'm the young guy. Most of the other clubs in the area are in the same boat. Our groomer operators are all in their 60's. Most of our executive board are wearing multiple hats. Went to the OFSC AGM last year and the average age was probably in the 60's. I foresee another 5-10 good years and then I think the system will fall apart without some young people getting involved. Sad after all the effort we all have put in for years.
  20. Good thread C2C! Brought back many good memories from the 90's to the mid 2000's! Thanks! We had a great bunch of young families and a couple of old boys all together in our little village. Many beers drunk in many driveways. Was good times! We were all a big family. After a few years some starting moving away and the dynamic changed. Appreciate what you have when the stars all line up! Doesn't happen all the time. Moved a few times since and haven't found that same camaraderie since. Hard to find again! Cheers!
  21. 2015 Trudeau. Didn't like that Harper pushed through the Canada/China FIPA 31 year deal without any consultation/consideration/deliberation or vote in Parliament. Felt he potentially threw Canada under the bus. Still to be determined. Also had a good Liberal candidate in my then riding, Jane Philpott. 2019 PPC Mad Max. Andrew Sheer and Trudeau were both horrible and couldn't vote for either. Liked some of Max's ideas. 2021 PC Erin O'Toole. Liked him. Seemed like a decent, reasonable guy and the only adult in the room. Agree with oldslowsledder's post.
  22. Yup. Heard about it. Frustrating. Assume the 607 will be closed as well as I can't see a reroute being done. Almost makes the BDSC 509 a dead end trail as the HCSA 9 has hardly been open over the last few years. BDSC opened a new section at the top of the 509 to accommodate a great landowner. That costs $$$ and time. Again, frustrating.
  23. Our club did reach out to the local OPP and they were receptive to our suggestions. Maybe it made a difference, hence the following article. Have seen their truck and sled trailer at different parking areas more often in the last while, weekdays and weekends. Good to see!
  24. Hi Sean Our clubs are having a problem with sleds running on closed trails. We are trying to pack and fill in areas(Canadian Shield), pack down the swamps, and they are just getting destroyed with the amount of traffic on them. Very frustrating. Regardless of our situation, the reason a trail is closed could also be due to landowner issue, unsafe bridge, fallen trees, etc. OPP were out in TMSC (Bobcaygeon) and BDSC (Buckhorn) yesterday(third party info but they had pics) and they were only giving out warnings. (again third party info). Not much of a deterrent. Is there any benefit to club executives reaching out to their local OPP detachments to get them to enforce a zero tolerance policy on closed trails (as well as other infractions) and issue tickets instead of verbal warnings? If so, who should they talk to? Thanks, Dan
