  1. Yet... like I said..try a ride along with a traffic guy. Attend some major collisions and help clean up body parts and do some next of kin notification... Speed is fine while in control. your injuries at 130 are quite a bit more substantial than at 100. It's not only about vehicles traveling safely at speed.. the result of vehicles coming to sudden stops from various speeds is also factored in. You may think you are safe at 135.. and you may be. But not everyone around is safe at that speed.
  2. I didn't miss the point at all. I didn't argue that 90 in a 50 is unsafe. The truth however is that you see far more 150+ in a 100 than you'll ever see 90 in a 50. I'm not sure how you think doing 150 on the highway is safe? The beauty of this is that you do not have to agree ever... Because it really doesn't matter. The laws exist regardless of your thoughts on them. Either way...don't exceed the limits and you'll never have to worry about being ticketed, losing your veh or your licence. It couldn't be any simpler.
  3. Go do a ride along with a traffic unit.... Stop a vehicle at the side of the 401. You have your opinion and I have my years of experience. You'll never agree, that's fine. Doesn't mean you are right however... The 401 is not exactly an open highway...
  4. Many others greatly disagree. Easiest way to avoid this, don't tailgate excessively in a large commercial motor vehicle. The stunt law has withstood many charter tests... Just my opinion on a law that's saving lives.
  5. Not for tractor trailers... way too close, no chance of stopping in time. IMO and experience at the collision scenes.
  6. Yeah.. you have a few years on me... 47 in July.
  7. Definition, “stunt” 3. For the purposes of section 172 of the Act, “stunt” includes any activity where one or more persons engage in any of the following driving behaviours: 1. Driving a motor vehicle in a manner that indicates an intention to lift some or all of its tires from the surface of the highway, including driving a motorcycle with only one wheel in contact with the ground, but not including the use of lift axles on commercial motor vehicles. 2. Driving a motor vehicle in a manner that indicates an intention to cause some or all of its tires to lose traction with the surface of the highway while turning. 3. Driving a motor vehicle in a manner that indicates an intention to spin it or cause it to circle, without maintaining control over it. 4. Driving two or more motor vehicles side by side or in proximity to each other, where one of the motor vehicles occupies a lane of traffic or other portion of the highway intended for use by oncoming traffic for a period of time that is longer than is reasonably required to pass another motor vehicle. 5. Driving a motor vehicle with a person in the trunk of the motor vehicle. 6. Driving a motor vehicle while the driver is not sitting in the driver’s seat. 7. Driving a motor vehicle at a rate of speed that is 50 kilometres per hour or more over the speed limit. 8. Driving a motor vehicle without due care and attention, without reasonable consideration for other persons using the highway or in a manner that may endanger any person by, i. driving a motor vehicle in a manner that indicates an intention to prevent another vehicle from passing, ii. stopping or slowing down a motor vehicle in a manner that indicates the driver’s sole intention in stopping or slowing down is to interfere with the movement of another vehicle by cutting off its passage on the highway or to cause another vehicle to stop or slow down in circumstances where the other vehicle would not ordinarily do so, iii. driving a motor vehicle in a manner that indicates an intention to drive, without justification, as close as possible to another vehicle, pedestrian or fixed object on or near the highway, or iv. making a left turn where, (A) the driver is stopped at an intersection controlled by a traffic control signal system in response to a circular red indication; (B) at least one vehicle facing the opposite direction is similarly stopped in response to a circular red indication; and (C) the driver executes the left turn immediately before or after the system shows only a circular green indication in both directions and in a manner that indicates an intention to complete or attempt to complete the left turn before the vehicle facing the opposite direction is able to proceed straight through the intersection in response to the circular green indication facing that vehicle. O. Reg. 455/07, s. 3.
  8. Hey Irv!! I'm a wreck!!! Don't get old!! Waiting on cortisone shots and now on celebrex to combat the arthritis... Once everything kicks in (if it doesn't then surgery..) I will requalify on police type things and back to regular duties!!! Driving a computer realty, really, really, really sucks...
  9. Whoa, whoa whoa!! Educating poor drivers is taking food out of my family's mouths!!! All kidding aside, it constantly amazes (saddens?) me that so few people understand how to enter and exit freeways....
  10. This is typical cheesy Gov't safety poster but it does spell out quite clearly the penalties for impaired/drug driving for novice/young drivers for those of you with young'uns at home. AS always...I'm the messenger. If you need to blast it, rant and rave please create a seperate but entertaining thread!! 11. Thanks!! Visited surgeon yesterday... seem to be on track. Now in a splint, 6 weeks post fracture. Begin physiotherapy tomorrow. Also found some major arthritis in there which goes nicely with my soon to be replaced left shoulder.

  13. My daughter has epilepsy... so everything is purple
  14. I wish!! I only ever seem to get the winter off and miss the sled season!!
  15. Omg, takes FOREVER to heal now, yet so easily injured. Doesn't look like they were exercising much discretion but wasn't there so can't say for sure. They get a lot of Quebec sledders there snd they, in my experience rarely have Ontario trail passes. Could be quote a few charges there as well.
  16. Thanks!! Sadly, no cool story...getting out of cruiser onto glare ice. Fractured the scaphoid bone. At least partner had a good laugh! I checked the link. That was Ottawa PD. But the article used a very old OPP sled pic... I'm assuming they charged for anything and everything by the looks of it. So expired insurances, fail to have registration available etc..
  17. I'll have to check. Hadn't heard that number but have been off for a bit.
  18. The insurance is always up to you with your own bike/sked/etc on your own property. It's once you leave your property that you must have liability insurance. I can't speak for the insurance companies about coverage re theft. As proof of ownership... that's how we would determine if you truly own the vehicle if we were there for some reason. Say you had an ofsc trail on your property that you riding on and we came across you. Your registration proves you are the owner and thus not requiring insurance.
  19. here's the absolute black/white answer: your sled/bike/quad etc no need for insurance if it is owned and driven by the property owner. It needs to be registered as well. This proves ownership. This also extends to the helmet law. Your property + your bike/sled = no hemelt requirement.
  20. Yes, very loud. Also outlawed in many villages and towns.
  21. In all honesty, I'd have to check. Originally interlock allowed a 2yr prohibition to become 1yr plus 1yr with interlock. Not sure if that has changed. Will try to get accurate answer.
  22. Rrrrightttt... asking for a friend!!! Lol! JK I know you guys are pretty straight on here..
  23. Sorry for delay guys, So right off the top, a prohibition order would have to include vessel in order to prevent driving a boat. But you guys are talking about interlock. So, interlock is required in a vehicle and on a sled. If you were operating an ATV on a roadway, you require a drivers licence. So if you have the interlock condition attached to said licence you need the interlock while on the roads. Your drivers licence is NOT a requirement for operating a vessel and therefore no interlock is required. Hope this clears it up.
