From what the business 'experts' here in Canada was saying, corporate in the US was bleeding the Canadian operations for several years. Nothing was being invested in the stores.

Yes it sucks, but it hasn't been Canadian since they dropped the Simpsons form the name. I think when the added the store to the Oshawa Centre, it initially was Simpson-Sears.

pure GREED brought this down - lots of people are going to get fucked over

making gains quarterly year in year out isn't possible anymore

It's hard to believe.  They were the anchor in pretty much every big mall out here.  Time marches on I guess.

Growing up out in the sticks, the women's swimsuit section of the summer catalog was the closest thing we had to porn.

I've treated myself like an amusement park a few till reading that shit...thst ,and and bra and panties section :nudie:

Pretty much here in the States too.  If they could find a way to fuck it up, they pretty much have, while I'm sure the executives are still making bank.

You aren't missing anything.  They're way over priced and have gone to cheap quality junk on most of their stuff

A few months ago when Sears laid off some employees without severance, and fuck some out of pensions, my wife and I agreed to never buy anything there again!

Lots thought the same and there were even groups dedicated to do just that!

Fuck Sears!

It is kind of sad what their tool selection has become.  They have even managed to fuck up one of their most iconic tools, the simple clear handled Craftsman screwdrivers!

The rest of the store, they are just trying to follow market trends towards low prices like all the other big name box stores.

I loved Sears. Have a few full sets of 60’s era sockets and open ends. Loved walking in with a hammered bunch of sockets and having them replaced for zip.

looked forward as a kid to the annual 25 pound Christmas catalog.

They got a little dirty in the 80's ,I wonder how many teens rubbed one out on the lingerie pages? I know I sure did

It all started downhill when a hedge fund capitalist from the US Eddie Lampert got control and started selling off the parts that made money. First to go was the Sears credit card to JP Morgan Chase for a few $B. He declared a special dividend to the shareholders, primarily himself. He sold off the travel business which was another large profit centre and the largest travel agency in the country. He put in a CEO Dene Rogers who changed the mission vision values statement from "a great place to work, shop and invest" to "make more money". Every time a CEO tried to grow the business which was something that could be done he refused to let them spend the money to do it.

Retail has NEVER made quarterly gains year in year out. The first 3 quarters of the year are traditionally operating losses. The term Black Friday is in reference to the time of year when retail actually makes a profit for that year. They always relied on a strong 4th quarter as the make or break it period.

Black Friday is called just that for a reason.

Their tool exchange policy is a joke now too.  I needed to exchange a broken 1/2" drive ratchet a couple years ago.  They gave me a rebuilt one.  Was a POS so I took it back.  Same thing on the next one.   Finally gave me a brand new one.

Yeah I've heard that, but the rebuilt one was probably a US made one.  Your new one, not so much.

I tell all my friends that if they have a old junk ratchet, I'll take it and see if I can get it working again.  Half the time, they don't even want them back.  Got some decent ratchets that way.
