racinfarmer
They are closing the Sears here in St. Cloud in January. I'd be surprised if they don't close it sooner. Been on of the mall's anchor stores for as long as I can remember, but the last time I was in there it was a ghost town.
Zambroski
I've still got my first set of Craftsman tools I got when I was a kid. I think Stanley owns them now. An American retail icon down the tubes. Anybody remember getting the new Sears catalogs in the mail? Fuck I'm getting old.

We have Scheels, Dick's, Fitzgeralds, and some smaller ones here. I find myself a little bit of everywhere for stuff once I'm out and about. Try to avoid the mall and around it on weekends though. Ez ryder
sears is just the shining beacon of what is going on. brick and mortar stores are done on anything except very high end shopping and consumables
2strokemerc
I was there yesterday checking out what I might buy once they start liquidating next Thursday. Will need 50% off before it's worthwhile.
snatchslayer
I liked Sears. There were Sears outlets in 3 towns around me. It was great. Order online ,go to the outlet and pick it up. Kinda like Consumers Distributing. Fuckin man style shopping, no gay stores to walk through. However, rumor here is the one here is going to start at 70% off retail right off the bat.
Mainecat
I loved Sears. Have a few full sets of 60’s era sockets and open ends. Loved walking in with a hammered bunch of sockets and having them replaced for zip. looked forward as a kid to the annual 25 pound Christmas catalog. I'll wait til they get to 50% and see what they have left.
sledderj
It's hard to believe. They were the anchor in pretty much every big mall out here. Time marches on I guess. Growing up out in the sticks, the women's swimsuit section of the summer catalog was the closest thing we had to porn.

awful knawful
A few months ago when Sears laid off some employees without severance, and fuck some out of pensions, my wife and I agreed to never buy anything there again! Lots thought the same and there were even groups dedicated to do just that! Fuck Sears!

Now it is Menards for Gearwrench and Knipex and Fleet Farm for Bondus and Felo stuff for my basic tool needs.
revrnd
From what the business 'experts' here in Canada was saying, corporate in the US was bleeding the Canadian operations for several years. Nothing was being invested in the stores. Yes it sucks, but it hasn't been Canadian since they dropped the Simpsons form the name. I think when the added the store to the Oshawa Centre, it initially was Simpson-Sears.
