Puzzleboy
I'm surprised the rods weren't through the hood of that little Ranger, with that kind of load behind..... He could tow an offshore boat with that thing!
toslow
Probably got a 4ltr, lot of power for that load
Puzzleboy
I'm guessing a 460.
Stoney
Surprising if you load the weight just a little more to the rear of the trailer, what some vehicles can tow.....might feel a bit of sway though Those 460's sure could fit into some small places, with a little creativity.... Puzzleboy
What does loading the weight rearward accomplish, except too little tongue weight, poor handling, etc.?

Exactly that....less tongue weight so an under rated vehicle could perhaps tow more that it should, which is not what you want....hence the sway comment above... Puzzleboy
Torsion bars are always an option, to load up the front axle of your tow vehicle. Pretty common on house trailers.
StevieWonder
Truth is , they were stuck in the snow , and had to wait for all the snow to melt to drive them out of the bush ............. Edited May 8, 2017 by StevieWonder

Boered
That little truck is rated for 5k lbs. Only towing about 2k.....ya I know, puzzle was trying to be funny.

I assume you are referring to a weight distribution hitch...if so, ya, that is exactly what is needed, especially with that load..... Otherwise, pretty sure the ranger actually does use torsion bars out front.

Puzzleboy
It was a joke (Yamaha tanks on the trailer). A Honda could tow that. 15 hours ago, 02sled said: Our neighbor has a Ranger and no problem towing a double open trailer with two sleds
Puzzleboy
Yes, a weight distributing hitch. Like our trusty ol' Prowler when we were kids.... They might use torsion springs out front. Torsion bars - unlikely. 14 hours ago, Stoney said: I assume you are referring to a weight distribution hitch...if so, ya, that is exactly what is needed, especially with that load..... No, torsion bars....key at one end that is used to adjust height and the other end attached to the LCA
Puzzleboy
My parents' Dakota had them........ torsion springs bars. One of the stranger pieces of Engineering I've seen...

Puzzleboy
The only reason I know that, was I bought it off of them, and looked into lift kits. Lol. Theirs was a 2002, IIRC. Thirsty 6 banger.
Stoney
The V6 (3.6 or 3.7 I think) was worse on gas than the 4.7 V8 with less power.....it was a great little truck. Used it for a few years towing an open car trailer, with a couple of air bags in the back, worked great, but once I upgraded to an enclosed car trailer weighing almost the same, it was time for a new truck, just too much wind resistance....
