I really haven't followed the ID race. But an ID official or possibly 2 of them should have been at this fuel stop to control any BS from non participants. I think the guys racing have their minds and hands full. They might not have time to do crowd control and stay focused on their main goal.

The way the official DQ release reads: "The crew providing fuel made contact with the racer's snowmobiles"

That does not sound like a case of random bystanders approaching to help.

We're they not pushing down on the rear of the sled to help burp it to get the last gallon in?  Rules is rules unfortunately.

Were the refueling guys there to refill all the sleds. Or were these guys there to just refuel this one team? If they were ID refueling guy they should also know the rules.

They were not refilling.  They were at the back of the sled pushing down to help burp it and get it refilled faster.  Apparently an issue with skidoos tank design.

Sorry Puzzle.

This is the only time in the race where refueling is allowed at a non designated location, teams support crew arranges to have fuel ready but cannot assst in the actual fueling. 120 miles between checkpoints Ruby and Tanana is the reason for this one exception.

Sorry Puzzle.

So this guy or guys just happened to be standing at this refueling station. In the middle of Alaska with nothing better to do that day then burp this one team's sled? I don't buy that.

These guys weren't part of the ID and this was the refueling station that they were to look after?

There are pics of it.  The team claim they were spectators and they were told to stop.

Wearing a TekVest in the Iron Dog likely makes sense.  Wearing it on a groomed trail to the Sprucedale Hotel does not.

The riders may well have been in communication with those guys.  The important points are, apparently everyone does it, and does the punishment fit the crime?  Especially when the rules are so poorly and vaguely written.  Read 'em.  The team who illegally obtained parts, installed them in an unauthorized area, and took a shortcut down Nome's roads..... was fined an hour and $400?  Come on....

I'd feel for the riders, regardless of what team they're on.  I'm not on an anti-Doo mission like Fuzzy.

These guys were in second place two nights ago.  To fix their damage and check in an hour+ ahead of the next team is unreal.  They likely only ran today in the event of an overturn later...... but as of the official start, they were DQ.

They were gonna, but felt the logistics of controlling Eskimos along a 2500 mile route might be tricky...... :)

Should then be the responsibility of the ID race to have proper crowd control. Would hate to ride into that spot and have some clown put his hand on the back bumper and be disqualified for it.

A couple years back, a SX'er was Dq'ed when he fot tangled up over the moguls and couldn't get his sled started.  He went around back to shift the rear around and one of the idiot volunteers grabbed the handle to try and help him out.  Boom!  Started right up....DQ.  And it didn't matter how or why it happened.  The racer is in charge and takes all responsibility for him and his vehicle.

Tough break for sure.

Why should a racer be responsible for what bystanders do?  Should the race organization not be responsible for security, crowd control, etc.?

In any case, I'd imagine ultimately these guys will be handed their victory.  Time will tell.

Hey Fuzzy..... half of the top ten finishers were on weak Doos.  How on earth did those XRS bulkheads stay together over 2000 miles of Iron Dog?

Aftermarket braces?

600cc limit is it not?
