Unless something changes, Capitalism will starve the planet by 2050

Recommended Posts

Americans are wasting away.   Everywhere I go see these frail, Skelton like people, especially in the poor areas.

Just watched a report on the news about the tons and tons of food Americans are literally throwing in the garbage.

Capitalism doesn't make anyone throw away their food. However, government regulations do. :snack:

There's been talk of future generations starving for a long time now and it's worked out every time, I ain't worried.

Great point, as someone who spent 15 years in the bakery industry.  They're likely past the expiration code.

Capitalism requires waste and scarcity to perpetuate itself.

That's, like, the whole point...

There is anything but a scarcity of food in this country.

The article is from Forbes. Not exactly a communist publication.

But people have been saying the same thing for decades, even a couple centuries(at a minimum). As the headline says "unless something changes". Things are always changing so I see little reason to worry. We have less people starving today in this world than in the past, even with more people on the Earth.

Humans don't have the ability to project what will happen in the next 20 years let alone 30, 40, 50+.

Good pic.  Yeah, nothing has been better for overall humanity than capitalism.  Is everybody "good to go"?  No.  But until there is an alternative that has been proven to be more effective (there is not), capitalism it is!

Sorry Moto.

Capitalism as we know it has a limited life expectancy.

Not necessarily. We went from something like 40% of people working on farms to 2%. Imagine what people would say if you asked them in the 1890's what the rest of these people would be doing for jobs and where all the food would come from, they wouldn't have the slightest idea because it's impossible to know what the future will bring.

This is a great TED Talk, give it a listen.
