This is not intended as an attack on any person, it is merely an attempt to draw what I (and many other principled leftists) view as a sharp distinction between leftists and liberals. Believe it or not, many do not see these terms as synonymous. And IMO, it is a distinction worth making and a conversation worth having. For example: If you defend or ignore the expansion of the surveillance state under Obama, yet opposed it under Bush, you're a liberal. If you oppose such expansion and infringement upon the 4th amendment, regardless of who occupies the White House or controls Congress, you're a leftist. If you defend the ACA and ignore the fact that it's a massive giveaway to corporate insurance interests, you're a liberal. If you oppose the ACA because it was clearly a giveaway by Democrats with a super majority, and also remember that Democrats didn't even TRY for a public option, much less single payer, you're a leftist. If you defend or ignore the expansion of the war on terror under Obama but opposed it under Bush, you're a liberal. If you realize that drone bombing 7 countries is just as bad, if not worse, than invading one sovereign nation on an obvious lie, you're a leftist. If you think the CIA was wrong about WMD's in Iraq, but believe what they say about hacking the election, you're a liberal. If you understand that what the intelligence community publicizes is propaganda, you're a leftist. Basically what it boils down to is consistency of principle. This is not an attempt to divide, it is an attempt to unite under some basic principles that will not be abandoned or adopted based on what party controls the government. People like Slinger MC and Snowrider claim to be liberal or leftwing when their actions show they are no different then the people that claim to be conservative. Neither a liberal or a conservative would accept the wars or the build up of the domestic surveillance state.
