Subject: : Hydro Payroll!!!!

PARDEN ME WHILE I THROW UP!!!!!!:

This can't be right.  See the highlighted names, titles and salaries –

What does an Authorization Training Supervisor do – and what do they need 11 of them at an average wage of $275K

What does a First Line Mechanical / Control person do and why are there 7 of them – average salary $255K

What does a Control Room Shift Supervisor  do and why are the 15 of them – average salary of $305K – one guy makes  $505K per year.

What does a Shift Manager  do and why are there 14 of them with an average salary of $284K

Now I know they have more than one installation in Ontario- but wow – surely there is HR staffing software and the like.

I now they run 24/7 365 – but really why in god's name do these people make so much money?

Unbelievable........

Gee I guess I picked the wrong vocation when I entered the work force. $257,000 salary for a shift worker at Hydro not bad .

Hydro rates going up again, the Ontario Energy Board says. OEB says milder winter is to blame for rate hikes, which will add about $3 to average monthly bill. Only in Ontario would customers be penalized for reduced electricity consumption. We do the things we are supposed to do: use smart meters, turn down the temperature, use the dryer dishwasher on off hours, turn off lights and yet we still get screwed."As a result of lower usage, Regulated Price Plan (RPP) prices did not recover the full cost of serving RPP customers.
One of the main reasons prices have increased this last May is to recover this shortfall." With the salaries shown below, it would appear the main function of the electricity system, supposedly supplying electricity to us, is just an incidental activity.

These top earners draw combined annual earnings of over 1.6 billion dollars. There are 626 making more than $200,000/Year. I love the ones highlighted on last nights news. The contractor that installed a bridge upside down and was paid a bonus and awarded contracts after that. Or the roads that were supposed to last 15 years, crumbled in 2 to 3 years due to using asphalt different than specified and then rather than hold the contractor responsible.... pay the same contractor that screwed us the first time $M's more to fix their screw up.

Good use of tax $'s but hey what does government care. The pot of money is bottomless. I wonder if the Minister of Transportation is going to tell the Auditor General that roads are too complex for her to understand.

It's a pretty thick document of government screw ups and fiscal stupidity for just one year isn't it?

Atleast you are getting the idea of Private Government Contractors for life, you know the ones you defend and argue for.   There are only a few contractors that get all jobs, there is not fair bedding process don't kid yourself.

this has been happening ever since we start the cheer for Private work, we get what we ask for everytime

I don't know why we are not adapting to rubberized asphalt for road re-surfacing.  I guess the asphalt lobby is still good and strong.

There would be no need if the public workers ever got their act together.

At least we have the means to dump the private contractors, jobs for life public sector, no thanks.

STILL WRONG AGAIN FAIL. I never have and never will support private government contractors FOR LIFE. What I DO SUPPORT is private contractors doing the job they were hired to do and being held accountable. THAT IS THE KEY. The dumb ass incompetent government employees / administrators are the ones that are stupid enough to pay the contractor a bonus for doing piss poor work, pay them even more money to fix their screw ups and then rehire them for another contract. Then repeat the same stupidity.

HOLD THE CONTRACTOR ACCOUNTABLE.

We were building our data centre in Mississauga. The contractor brought in a crane to lift a couple of $600K cooling units into place. They didn't pay attention and didn't use the lift points and rings installed by the manufacturer. They damaged the units. The repairs were in the ballpark of just under $200K. We didn't pay for the repairs. That was the contractors problem to deal with.

You don't reward people for doing a lousy job.

JOBS FOR LIFE IS GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES ONLY. All the contracts I have ever been involved with had non performance clauses and penalties applied to the contractors if they didn't do their job right.

They didn't likely pay for it either, it falls under general liability and insurance will cover it.

There is only a small handful of Contractors that can do the job of that size, that is why they keep hiring them - get it, this isn't some small office building network cooler

Now these cheating companies are being give a pass from the government and the public (haters) - nothing will happen, you super conservatives will not be demanding them to be banned from contracts.  All we will here is Wynne blah blah (yes complete fuck up) -  We don't even hear the name of these companies it seems, just "the contractor"

Fucking cheats for Profit

The bottom line is We didn't pay for the screw up and similarly the government shouldn't pay the contractor to fix what the contractor screwed up. Not to mention give them a damn bonus for screwing up.

Hit them with penalties and hold them liable. Have the penalties in the contract if it costs them enough money they will correct the behaviour.

By the way... not a small office building network cooler Fail. Not unless you call $80M construction cost small. You have know idea what a data centre comprises or the costs involved.

I had a 6000gal process hot water fail during during commissioning, it imploded like a crushed can due to inadequate/incorrect venting.  This happens much more than they like to admit, but the manus will not put venting on these since they do not want to take responsibility.  The general had to build a bypass system until insurance got it replaced and then re-installed.  The crane guys to pull this 40' tank did an amazing job.  Sometimes shit just happens, but the end user did not fork over a dime to fix it.

Exactly... but when it comes to government the end user just keeps paying and paying because the government administrators that pay the bills seem to take the easy way out rather than sit down at the table and demand... you screwed up now fix it and we aren't paying for it. Just because they have in the past doesn't mean it has to continue and shouldn't continue. It's our tax money they are throwing away.

Lots of coverage of this on CTV's chain of stations. I hope people are getting the message.

The governor of Illinois should send a thank you note to Seabiscuit. For states that are close to Ontario, she's is their best economic development program.

Pretty sad when you can't justify staying in Ontario with a 75 cent dollar and would rather pay Obamacare.  Thanks Wynnebag.

Wynnebag is a waste of space. She has announced that she recognized that the Drive Clean Inspection Program was seen as a tax on people and therefore the province will start paying for the mandatory program. That means more government administrative jobs to process the payments etc. and the people will no longer be paying their mechanic for the test. OH CRAP! Wait a minute... the money's just coming out of a different tax payer pocket. Instead of going straight to the mechanic it goes into the general tax coffers and will actually cost us more thanks to the extra government jobs.

One of the most recent. Wynnebag says they do everything they can to avoid using bottled water in the premiers office and she doesn't understand why people use so much bottled water. It's time for the province to take measures to correct that behaviour.

"I really think we need to look at the culture around bottled water. Why are we all drinking water out of bottles when most of us don't need to?"

There are situations where bottled water is needed because of old pipes or other problems, said Wynne.

"But do all of us need to be using bottled water?" she asked. "I think we need to have a bigger look at the whole industry, and our role in regulating it."

Stronger regulations of the bottled water industry and more public education about the safety of tap water could help the province achieve its goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the impacts of climate change,

"Climate change, droughts, carbon emissions are all tied to this very wasteful industry,"

Hey Irv, are you on this list ? LOL

LOL, nope, but maybe this year?

One thing, and I know you guys don't want to hear it, but some of those guys/gals who make that type of money worked a shit load of overtime.

OPG hasn't hired full time people in years, all in an effort to help keep costs down so there is never a shortage of overtime for those that want/need it. So, you see, it's a double edged sword, we are damned if we do and damned if we don't. People want costs kept down but yet are the first to complain when someone makes over a 100 g's a year without even thinking about all the overtime they've worked.

Some of those jobs listed pay very well, and rightfully so, as you need talented/skilled/smart people running these Nuke plants, not a bunch of dummies who are paid peanuts who would have no idea what to do if there were ever an incident. A control room sno has a ton a responsibility and has the power/knowledge to oversee crisis, can shut down a unit if need be, etc, etc. He is even more trained/knowledgeable than some of our panel operators. Personally, I don't know how these guys do it.

Running a Nuke Plant is nothing like it is in the real world but yet there are others out there who make similar/same/more who have far less responsibility.

As an aside, OPG, Hydro One, OEB, Auditor General, etc, etc, all warned McGuinty, Wynne and the rest of the Liberal Gov't that forging ahead with there Green Energy plan would lead to the crisis we are in now, but of course, their arrogance, greater than though attitudes didn't listen and we are in this mess now.

I am just thankful, being an OPG employee, that I get my Hydro for free! :snack:
