Shrink the civil service/have efficiency experts go in-top to bottom-privatize what can be done competitively-put it out to bids!

Just look at the greed in the USA with everything from health to jails is all run for massive profits - sorry Mushola I have no interest in becoming american

Morneau tried to tax people with holding companies  who left cash in them for investment. Caused a big uproar a couple of years ago

Faster healthcare is great if you have cancer etc. If put to a referendum I bet most people would vote for more efficiently run government services

I bet you are wrong on that vote

USA cancer care is not better than ours and their PRIVATE FOR PROFIT is quite expensive - Cancer usually means you will be broke in the Usa UNLIKE  here.  no one is voting this out

A month's worth of chemotherapy cost $12,345 on the U.S. side of the border versus $6,195 just over the line into Canada, according to findings scheduled to be presented Sunday at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), in Chicago.

If you need over price care just go south and hand them cash, they will take it with a smiile.

By the way Cancer sucks

The problem isn't the treatment, it's getting to the diagnosis.

Yup cancer sucks.

In general most government services are inefficient as there is a lack of accountability. Budgets get spent @ year end so they aren't reduced the next-ridiculous!

We have waits because we don't pay to not wait - it has nothing to do with Private services

Ontario could open 10 MRI clinics next week and we would have no waits but that isn't going to happen.  WHY?

It all comes down to early detection.  The US has us beat there, no question about it.  The treatment once diagnosed is mostly the same.

although that does happen but it also happen for a good reason, departments usually have very little money over the year specially for capital spending.  This money saved over the year is used to buy equipment or whatever.  Its not like someone gets their home painted..

so it really isn't wasted money like claimed.

budgets are so small now it really can't get any less.....

Running services for a country or province is not a business where profits are the only concern.   When the road breaks you have to fix it today regardless of how much your budget is or isn't.

Detected? or acted on?

edit I found this makes sense

A missed cancer diagnosis is a common lawsuit in America. The defendants typically settle for unlimited economic loss and also pain and suffering. That is a huge incentive for American doctors to overtest for cancer. Of course that leads to earlier diagnosis and a significant time bias in studies comparing healthcare systems.

In my opinion, American cancer patients are over treated compared to those in other countries. Almost every patient has some kind of treatment in the general panic of learning of their diagnosis. Too many American cancer patients have surgery that may not lead to better survival such as a large group of men with low grade prostate cancer or women with low grade precancers of the breast (DCIS).

Many breast cancer patients in America receive chemotherapy and/or endocrine therapy for small cancers that would be treated without those treatments in other countries. Sometimes the benefit in treating is an additional 1–2%.

You can get a specialist in days and an MRI the same day.  I don't need to link what is already common knowledge.

The wait would disappear, the wait is created by lack of clinics - right now they pretty much run 24 hours a day as it is

we don't pay

The biggest problem in the us is they do far more unnecessary MRIs than necessary ones so insurance's policies can get milked.  Some truth.
