yes a failing company it looks like.  Times are changing and the new generation isn't buying the old giants anymore.   We have seen this from Cereal to soup to just about everything except fast foods

Come on they're not paying min wage and are also not done.  They are expanding their growth markets and buying new ones.

it appears a dispute with Walmart is partly to blame for Campbell Soup's recent problems. The Wall Street Journal reported in August that Campbell Soup and Walmart could not agree on pricing and shelf space promotion for the company's soup.

Campbell Soup Chief Financial Officer Anthony DiSilvestro said during a conference call with analysts Tuesday that a big percentage of the company's weak U.S. soup sales was due to "reduced support levels with a key customer."

Campbell Soup would not identify the customer but several Wall Street analysts have said that it's Walmart in research reports as well.

People aren't buying canned soup like they used to.  They want healthier options, that why I said put it in a mason jar like grandma did.:lol:

Maybe Campbell's could've closed a plant in the US & moved its production to Etobicoke? But nah that ain't going to happen.

sodium is Campbell's down fall for the health watchers 

Myself I like their soups and chunky ready made and add a sleeve of crackers (by the way there is only one cracker CHRISTIES PREMIUM )

 

This is about Money they aren't making nothing more

That's an understatement... minimum wage may not have impacted them but other changes to the labour laws will. The plant has been there since 1931. Hydro costs and just an unfriendly business environment, both federal and provincial have an impact.

Extensions to the unpaid parental and critical illness leaves of absence

New scheduling rules represent major changes in how businesses operate and therefore businesses have over a year to prepare

  • Reporting pay — Three-hour minimum pay: Employees who regularly work more than three hours per day, but upon reporting to work are given less than three hours, must be paid three hours pay.
  • On-call pay — Three-hour minimum pay: Employees who are “on-call” and not called into work, or who are called into work but work less than three hours, must be paid three hours pay.
  • Shift cancellation — Three-hour minimum pay: If an employer cancels a shift within 48 hours of its start, employees must be paid three hours pay
  • Right to refuse: Employees can refuse to accept shifts if their employer asks them to work with less than 96 hours’ notice
