Congress was and is secondary to the absurdity in cost of education.

Congress would never have had to jump in if prices remained sane where even basic jobs could pay back the prices.

Neal

It is absurd.

This.

When you pay a fake fucking Indian $400,000 per year to teach one course, of course it's going to be expensive.

It’s better than paying a President $110,000,000.00 to play golf.

Prices started going thru the roof when Congress got involved and guaranteed the colleges an endless supply of money.

Other way round.

They had no problems with an endless money supply before Congress.

Neal

There's no such thing as an endless money supply unless it's the government doing the funding with funny money.

Wrong.  People were not getting shut out of loans before Congress came in.

The costs across all institutions went up more from 1985-2005 than from 2005-2015.

So you're comparing a 20 year window to a 10 year window?

College cost increase for a number of reasons. Slashing money received from government. Increased salaries for teachers. Add on faculty, counselors and various other tack on ons including healthcare workers. increased administration costs.

Indeed, it wasn't just a government funding trigger.

The salaries of teachers haven’t increased anymore than other professions so that’s a non-changeable. Perhaps some major cuts to auxiliary personnel, utilizing students for more pay for services, larger class sizes, and streamlining administration is in order. Let’s not forget about the silly cost of college sports. Get rid of those sports programs

The quality of education is still intact. American universities have an excellent core. It’s all the tack on shit that’s accumulated over the years that drives up costs. Student services is out of control.

I worked at a public university for 7 years. As the fiscal conservative, the attitudes around spending in those environments is disgusting. The teacher salaries are not the problem, at least here.

Very true, but I view them more as a coordinated effort to enrich the education industry.

It all comes out of committee. The continuous tack on of student services. Some loud mouth idiot with a raging personality disorder pushes for an idea to increase student services. It could be additional mental health services, health services, or additional funding for a new sports program. The idea never gets challenged because of a fear factor. I’ve been in those committees with the nutcases.

Well yeah, it makes sense to let the students make all the decisions, right?
