Platinum Contributing Member Highmark Posted June 6, 2016 Platinum Contributing Member Share Posted June 6, 2016 (edited) I've heard this floated around the US by the democratic socialist crowd. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/06/world/europe/switzerland-swiss-vote-basic-income.html?_r=0 About 77 percent of voters rejected a plan to give a basic monthly income of 2,500 Swiss francs, or about $2,560, to each adult, and 625 francs for each child under 18, regardless of employment status, to fight poverty and social inequality and guarantee a “dignified” life to everyone. Switzerland was the first country to vote on such a universal basic income plan, but other countries and cities either have been considering the idea or have started trial programs. Supporters of the initiative, including Kim-Fabian von Dall’Armi, gathered in Basel to celebrate the fact that 23 percent voted yes. Capt.Storm
Hey they could probably pay for half that program by cutting out the middle men known as the welfare office.

They would still need a bureaucracy to administer the program and the bureaucracy would likely increase due to the increased number of people drawing from it. The program was not just for the unemployed but also those that earned less would be topped up. The nice part of their system is that the government HAS to listen to the people. You get a referendum to the people and the government has no choice but to implement the results of the referendum.
Capt.Storm
Maybe 02sled but it would just be one fed gov doing the administrating instead of every county in the country here. I think there is merit to it. Edited June 6, 2016 by Capt.Storm

Their unemployment rate is currently at 3.4% which is an enviable percentage compared to many others.
