Of course the economy would be better off if we never had a forest fire or a flood or any other natural disaster. So these events will not be altered in any way through a tax. Taxes will do nothing to stop a changing climate, nor will they stop the burning of fossil fuels. We are totally reliant upon fossil to survive. Every single item you consume was brought to you with fossil fuels, from its production to transportation. As our global population continues to increase exponentially, we will see a rise in consumption, even with a decline per person. Until we have a viable alternative that is clean not much will change. Currently we do not, and batteries are not the answer, they too are dirty in the manufacture and end of life disposal. Low cost energy is why we live the way we do, and there is no going back. Taxes are a simply a way to gain control over a population. We in Canada are taxed at a rate that is currently pushing 60% of all income. When we see a tax of 5% more on that 60% it equates to 10% of ones net income and worsens as taxes rise further. They are getting very close to a goal of 100% taxation and what is then a communist society destined to cause death and destruction. This is what the morons supporting government taxes hidden as clean environment measures.
