The big money maker for Lockheed with be the maintenance costs on these flying white elephants. New stealth coating after each flight. Crazy. USA Contributing Member $poorsledder$ Posted June 14, 2019 USA Contributing Member Share Posted June 14, 2019 F35 was not meant to be an F 22, it is loaded with sensors to collect data and communicate with other aircraft / ground weapons / drones / etc. to determine where the enemy is and who should take the shot. Stealth gets them time to get the shot off before the enemy can. F35 is not a “dogfighter”, f22 and the newer F15s will be for that if they are bought. F35 doesn’t have to carry a shit load of weapons as other assets around it can take the shot for it. Canada’s politics is worse than US when it comes to purchasing military equipment, read about the Ch148. They finally ended up with a nice helo that took years to complete because they kept changing the specs while blaming everyone around them. With the F35 it looks to be the same, it’s gonna suck for them if they end up with an aircraft that can’t “interact” with the rest of the aircraft around them. Skynet is almost here..... Sikorsky has been working with an autonomous helicopter, are now doing a fly by wire setup for the old Blackhawk so that a kit can be retrofitted for it. Im sure F35 has been built for this
