They use all of their natural gas for electricity production. Most of their domestic water supply comes from desalination plants (California pay attention here). That's going to require a lot more electricity generation as the population grows. Sun only shines in the desert at night. They will need base loads of nuke plants and be able to hit peak demand with solar and natural gas. Either way, it takes a ton of energy to desalinate water. I just pump out basically an unlimited water supply with a 3/4 HP well pump. Some things we take for granted.
