Cop Watch
https://reason.com/blog/2019/02/07/green-new-deal-democratic-socialism-by-o As it happens, a team of Stanford engineers led by Mark Jacobson outlined just such a plan back in 2015. Jacobson’s repowering plan would involve installing 335,000 onshore wind turbines; 154,000 offshore wind turbines; 75 million residential photovoltaic systems; 2.75 million commercial photovoltaic systems; 46,000 utility-scale photovoltaic facilities; 3,600 concentrated solar power facilities with onsite heat storage; and an extensive array of underground thermal storage facilities. Assuming steep declines in the costs of each form of renewable electric power generation, just running the electrical grid using only renewable power would still cost roughly $7 trillion by 2030. The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation calculated that the total cost of an earlier version of Jacobson’s scheme would amount to $13 trillion. And based on how fast it has taken to install energy generation infrastructure in the past, Jacobson’s repowering plan would require a sustained installation rate that is more than 14 times the U.S. average over the last 55 years and more than six times the peak rate. Where is the money to pay for this massive transformation going to come from? The headline over at The Week sums it up pretty well: “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wants to pay for her Green New Deal by essentially printing more money.”

We've already fucked up our rail system beyond rebuild to the extent it would serve well as interstate public transport. And it doesn't matter..our system is old and incapable of high speed travel anyway. This is idiotic pie in the sky bullshit. We'd be better served talking about a high speed, coast to coast Autobahn type system over HS rail. I know it's difficult for you, but think about this: The first power plant in this country came on line in 1882, 137 years ago and look how far we have gone with electricity since then........and we haven't seen nothing yet, but hey it's OK if you're afraid of the future if makes you comfortable to live in a cocoon. 3 hours ago, Highmark said: Poor cucked Vinny. The point is looking at what a party wants to do. Of course most of this they will never get thru but its what they will do because they don't get their way. For example. Can't get rid of all external combustion engines so they start attacking recreational ones. They're going to take our snowmobiles (Snowmobilers for Bush....I had the bumper sticker) they're going to take our guns..............I mean goddamn dude it's all fear mongering bullshit, that's why I said goodbye to the party of being afraid. Fucking simple Well that's fine but if AOC and her ilk have their way life as you know and live it would be vastly different. I agree that the power structure as it exists is fucked up but there has to be a middle ground between that and paying the unwilling to work and abolishing internal combustion engines and jet flight.
