North Bay OPP advise public that snowmobile trail A/D located north of Sand Dam Road north of North Bay will be closed most of the day to remove a groomer that fell off a bridge last night. Operator received minor injuries. Remember no ice is safe. Enjoy the outdoors and avoid ice; stick to trails that are open and marked.

Wow thats some scary shit the cab on those units must be built well not to have crushed the operator, some real pucker factor there glad nobody was seriously injured.Joe

Those groomer roll overs are very survivable (on land) as they are very low speed.......  Do the same at 60k and you are done.....I wonder if he was wearing his seatbelt.....lol

I am betting the operator was concussed. Your head gets smashed pretty easily,  even if you only tip to the side on medium sized machines.

OC says the op is alright. :bc: http://ontarioconditions.com/forums/index.php?/topic/19406-groomer-down/

This could be the beginning of the end for the OFSC. Any kind of investigation of this incident involving a bridge could make the MNRF enforce Engineer Stamped and inspected yearly bridges for all OFSC bridges. Maybe not this time but if someone ever dies in a bridge incident it will happen for sure. We need to keep our fingers crossed we can keep the bridges we have now and keep incidents low key but that won't happen.

Not to mention a M.O.L field day with such incidents like this being broadcast on all avenues of social media.

I have the same gut feeling as you Tim.

I do not think most realize the number of small snow covered bridges that you cross on sled...sure there are the more obvious ones, but there are a lot of small ones, not sure where a line is drawn though on what rules on followed based on what size of bridge.

Don,t know if it was mentioned in this thread, but the groomer has been recovered, and returned to the shop in Lively, to be assessed for damage. Great co-ordinated effort by many different departments, and groups. Nice to see so many groups working together, to get the task at hand done, without each group fighting for its own agenda. Would like to hear exactly why this accident happened, but I would think it will be kept very hush, hush. The OFSC doesn,t like bad press.

The Happy Wanderers have been dealing with bridge headaches for quite some time now.

If you like to snowmobile and have trails to ride, then this thread should just die. It was an accident and no one was hurt so just leave it at that and forget about it.

Why would that be ? Is it wrong to want to know the root cause, so people can learn from others mistakes, or whatever it was that caused the accident ?????

Why does it concern you so much, are you a groomer operator, and if so, I am sure you will hear something about it. Did you not read Algonquin and Yukon's posts? Keeping this to the forefront and not letting it die might affect us all. Currently there are far too many posts/threads on the incident but the people in the know, or who love snowmobiling, know the quicker this dies the less attention it will receive from those who may want to shut things down.
