With a glance you knew if you were close. Also use to cut a small strip of red reflector tape and put in on desired RPM. If I couldn't see the needle I knew I was spot on. I hope it doesn’t spoil the fun of my tach pic, but I cheated a bit. I actually snapped that pic while I had it hooked up to my Yamaha receiver for calibrating last fall. I downloaded a tone generator app on my iPhone and set it for 780 or 7800 Hz, can’t remember. I might have to try the red reflective tape trick.
