Trump’s declining popularity with voters outside of the Republican Party may put Republicans’ hopes of holding the House in jeopardy. Eight polling entities — ABC News/Washington Post, CNN, Gallup, IBD/TIPP, the Kaiser Family Foundation, Quinnipiac University, Grinnell College/Selzer & Co, and Suffolk University — give the president an average approval rating of 38 percent, a drop of 3 points from Trump’s previous approval polling average, 41 percent. Only Rasmussen gives the president a total approval rating above 45 percent. Unlike other polling services, Rasmussen polls likely voters using automated calls made to landlines, which means those polled tend to be older and more likely to vote for the GOP.
