While I agree with him in many respects M.M.'s drew from public outrage of judges under sentencing people.  Seems like common sense should step back in and take a better look at these laws, especially when it comes to small, non violent drug crimes and first time offenders.   I really have no sympathy for repeat offenders of any crimes.  

Keep one thing in mind.   Crime rates generally go down as the prison population goes up because most offenders are repeat.

We got broke into one time and the Sheriff who came said they know exactly when robberies go up because certain people are let out of jail.  He also said unfortunately there is very little they can do because statistics are not enough to get a warrant to look for stolen goods.  They have to get caught in some way or another.
