It's pretty reasonable to assume that more advanced technology has been available in that time and has been suppressed for one reason or another. Lots of powerful entities don't want people like musk to succeed.

The IC engine is one of the least efficient devices man has or will ever create. Nearly 50% of the energy input into the engine is wasted as heat and parasitic loss. On the other hand, gasoline and other liquid hydrocarbons are plentiful, reasonably cheap and pack a huge amount of energy into a very small package. Electrics will continue to improve. The day they replace the IC is still a long way off.

That’s an amazing increase when compared to all the preceding years. A lot of that advancement is because of Tesla and it’s lab and work with vendors. The LIB is termed to max out on energy denisity in 2 years. Panasonic predicts another 30% before the maximum safe level of energy density is reached. There’s some work on lithium air batteries that blows away LI. But the life expectancy isn’t there yet. Point being, battery technology is advancing rapidly at the moment and there’s a lot of financial incentive to do so.

Platinum Contributing Member Highmark Posted June 11, 2018 Platinum Contributing Member Share Posted June 11, 2018 (edited) To each their own. To me speed is only a part of the equation. Sound is another significant part of the equation for me. I'll take a sweet sounding slower vehicle over a faster electric one every single time. One can only go so fast on the roads anyway.
