‘Night Court’ actor found dead in his North Carolina home, officials say

Harry Anderson, best known for his leading role in the “Night Court” sitcom in the 80s, died Monday morning at his home in Asheville, police officials said.

Police were called to Anderson’s home before 8 a.m., according to Christina Hallingse, Asheville police public information officer.

Hallingse said foul play is not suspected.

Anderson was born on Oct. 14, 1952 in Newport, Rhode Island.

The actor, screenwriter and magician appeared on “Saturday Night Live” from 1981 to 1985, but is best remembered for his leading role on “Night Court.”

Anderson played Judge Harold "Harry" T. Stone on “Night Court” from 1984 to 1992.

He also played the title role in “Dave’s World” and shot 98 episodes of the sitcom that ran from 1993 to 1997.

Anderson moved from Los Angeles to New Orleans, where he met and married his second wife, Elizabeth Morgan, in 2000.

He had a small shop in the French Quarter called Sideshow where he sold magic-related items and curiosities. He also opened a nightclub in the French Quarter in 2005 called Oswald’s Speakeasy.

Anderson and his wife survived Hurricane Katrina inside the club but, discouraged with the city's recovery, they sold the club and moved to Asheville in 2006.
