I still can’t wrap my head around that story

There are NO details in this particular story.  Did the pistol just accidentally go off or did he point it and pull the trigger?  And why did he have his pistol out in the first place.

Noor was one of the first Somali-American police officers in the area.

This is the incident according to wiki:

Damond called 9-1-1 twice eight minutes apart late in the evening on the day of the shooting, reporting that she thought she heard a woman either having sex or being raped.[18] Officers searched the area and found no suspects or signs of the suspected rape that had prompted Damond's telephone calls to 9-1-1.[19]

According to the account by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, which is investigating the shooting, the officers were driving through an alley, the lights on their squad car off, looking for an assault suspect. "Officer Harrity indicated that he was startled by a loud sound near the squad," the statement said. Immediately afterward, Ms. Damond "approached the driver’s side window of the squad car. Harrity indicated that Officer Noor discharged his weapon," striking her through the open driver's-side window.[20]

There have been conflicting reports concerning how many times Damond was shot. Some sources have claimed Noor fired a single shot,[21] while it was reported that Damond was shot multiple times.[22] The officers attempted CPR to no avail; Damond died 20 minutes later.[23]

Both officers had their body cameras switched off.[24] Minneapolis introduced police body cameras in 2016, but their activation is not mandatory in all situations.[25] According to MPD protocol, officers are required to activate body cameras for "all citizen contact".

Investigators were looking for an unidentified witness, a bicyclist, who stopped nearby while the officers were administering CPR. [26] They subsequently located and interviewed the bicyclist. While officials have not confirmed nor denied it, it has been reported that this witness recorded at least some portion of the incident.[23]

Is this the one where they walked up / ran up to the cop car on the drivers side and got shot by the officer sitting in the passenger seat?

Sort of like that.

The victim had called the police.  The police responded, but did not see any evidence of a crime.  So, they were leaving the area.  She did approach the police vehicle from behind.  Supposedly, she tapped or hit the car with her person and approached the driver side door.  She was shot by the officer sitting in the passenger seat.  It is not clear why.

Accidentally go off?

What's strange is it took so long to file charges.   Too much political correctness going on.    This case should have been able to solved in about a week.   They simply didn't want the media storm of charging a Black police officer while it was fresh in the public eye.

Bingo!

On one hand for the librul media, he was another officer to be vilianized, ostrasized AND charged for murder.  But on the other, he was a black muslim to be protected in the warm embraces of the librul bosom.  It was just too gut wrenching for liberals to deal with appropriately.

Not what I read.   They heard a loud noise that they never reported sounded like gunfire, she approached the drivers side window and he shot her from the passenger side.   My bet the "noise" may have been made up.   There was a witness on a bicycle near by.

The charges against Noor mirror the findings of the initial police investigation in July — that Matthew Harrity, who was driving the squad car and did speak to investigators, was startled by a loud noise in the moments before Damond approached his side of the vehicle. Noor fired a single shot from the passenger seat, striking Damond through Harrity's open window, according to authorities.

He was only charged, hasn't been convicted yet........

That’s true. The jury recently saw a man executed on video by the police and no convictions. Don’t the police realize that they are probably the most vulnerable targets in society? They all have a target on their uniform. Dummies
