Don't think I've heard of Western Digital until a week or so ago when I started looking a little bit.  I have this old Maxtor thing that is making a funky noise when running, so it is time to get a new one!

Must be living under a rock.  They are the Ford of the hard drive world.

You ever recover a failed drive Sheepshitforbrains? :dunno:

Yeah, a few times, not recently though.

I almost never do any sort of PC repair work anymore.

How do you do it I have a 2TB drive that's just quit :dunno:

Is it the primary drive in the PC or is it a secondary drive?

There was a program I used back in the day but it's been so long I don't even remember the name of it.

Yeah, would suck to lose that stuff. :bc:

If nothing else there are places that can do it for a couple thousand bucks, maybe less. Pretty high success rate.

Spinrite.  I brought one drive back to life that took a week and a half for something like a 20 GB drive.  It hung on some bad sectors for the vast majority of that time.

The online experts love to hate it but I find it works more often than not.  It does need to be updated for drives larger than 2 TB but that is still probably the minority of drives even today.
