He's mobile and a safe an given the right scheme. He is not a strong passer

And from everything I read the dude was universally liked which goes a long way in the locker room and practice field....players will listen and bust ass for a guy like that.

Losing Dion Lewis absolutely blows.

He's good, but the Pats have always seemed to be able to plug a back in to their system and get good production out of whoever it is.

I like how they've been using multiple backs with different styles and it also keeps them fresh and healthy. Gillislee, white, and burkhead if they sign him, would still make an ok running game, but Lewis was by far the best one.

The New England Patriots held on to one free-agent running back.

The Pats agreed to a three-year contract with Rex Burkhead, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reports, according to a source informed of the deal. Rapoport adds the deal is heavy on guaranteed money.

The Boston Globe first reported the signing.

Burkhead signed a one-year deal in New England last offseason. The Swiss Army Knife earned a new contract by compiling 264 yards on 64 carries (4.1 average) with five rushing touchdowns, adding 30 receptions for 254 yards and three receiving TDs.

The biggest issue in Burkhead's first season with the Pats was health. The running back missed six regular season games and one playoff tilt. While dealing with a knee injury down the stretch, Burkhead took just four carries in the playoffs for 23 yards.

The 5-foot-10 pinball is a versatile tailback, which fits the Patriots' profile. Burkhead owns elusiveness between the tackles, is a plus receiving back and had success as a short yardage back in goal-line situations.

With Dion Lewis departing for Tennessee, keeping Burkhead in New England alongside James White and Mike Gillislee became a priority. In locking down Burkhead, the Pats were able to make sure they didn't lose two multifaceted backs this offseason.

It's official: Kirk Cousins is the new starting quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings.

Cousins met with team officials Wednesday night over dinner and toured the Vikings' new facility on Thursday before agreeing to the richest contract in NFL history. The three-year, $84 million deal, which is fully guaranteed, makes Cousins the highest-paid player ever, a source informed of the contract told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

Michael Bennett indicted for incident on field following Patriots-Falcons Super Bowl

According to King5.com, a Harris County grand jury has indicted defensive end Michael Bennett, the brother of Martellus Bennett, for a felony charge of injury of the elderly for injuring a 66-year-old paraplegic, who was working at NRG Stadium for Super Bowl LI between the Patriots and Falcons.

Michael was there to support Martellus, who was playing for the Patriots.

The current member of the Eagles shoved his way on to the field following the game after NRG security personnel, including the 66-year-old disabled victim, told him he had to use a different entrance. Michael allegedly pushed the elderly woman.

The charge carries a penalty of up to ten years in prison and a $10,000 fine. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
