Unapologetic Farting Man on Plane Causes Emergency Landing

The rules of politeness apply pretty much everywhere we go. This is especially important to remember when we’re on an airplane.

This unspoken rule of the skies (and the close quarters up there) may be why people are especially offended when someone does something rude like taking off their shoes or eating smelly food. Or, in this case, proceeding to brazenly pass gas, despite other passengers asking them to stop.

Last weekend, a Transavia Airlines flight from Dubai to Amsterdam was forced to make an emergency landing due to a fight that broke out between a man and the passengers sitting next to him. Despite their pleas, the man insisted on farting throughout the flight.

Every human passes gas. That’s a part of life. But refusing to hold back or even offer a little “excuse me” just crosses the line, especially at 30,000 feet.

The plane was diverted to Vienna, where police with dogs removed the two men — and two women who claim they had nothing to do with the incident.

The women, who were Dutch but of Moroccan descent, are now taking the Dutch budget airline to court after being removed from the flight. Though they were sitting in the same aisle, they told De Telegraaf they had nothing to do with the conflict. It is unclear why they were also removed from the flight.

One of the women, Nora Lacchab, said: “Do they sometimes think that all Moroccans cause problems? That’s why we do not let it sit.”

All four passengers have since been released, according to Metro, but they have all been banned from Transavia Airlines, including the two women.

In a statement Transvania Airlines said: “Our crew must ensure a safe flight. When passengers pose risks, they immediately intervene. Our people are trained for that. They know very well where the boundaries are. Transavia is therefore square behind the cabin crew and the pilots.”
