So Canada has lost 31,000 jobs last month.  And largest trading deficit ever.

 

Hopefully Its all Liberal supporters out of work bud sad reality is Liberals are killing our country.

How much of that was oil workers. People want cheap oil/gas but then someone has to pay. Once oil rebounds some of those jobs will come back.

Almost none.  Most were in ontario in the public sector.  So much for hudak and his 100k job cuts.  Lol.

Employers eliminated 71,400 full-time positions, the second consecutive month of full-time declines, but 40,200 part-time jobs were created. Meanwhile, the participation rate fell to its lowest level since late 1999, as more people either stopped actively searching for work or stopped working altogether.

Over the first seven months of the year, employers created 12,400 positions, representing the weakest job creation since the Great Recession.

“Job growth has slowed to near post-crisis lows,” David Watt, chief economist with HSBC Bank Canada, said in a note. “Job growth remains weak.”

Although the number of hours worked rose slightly, growth in wages slowed, suggesting demand for labour has weakened.

“The annual trend in employment and hours worked is commensurate with an economy that continues to face headwinds,” said Nick Exarhos, an economist with CIBC World Markets.

Employment among younger workers fell by 28,000 positions and the services-producing sector took a hit.

The natural resources sector has lost the most positions over the past 12 months. Weak oil prices have pummelled the energy sector, with Alberta bearing the brunt of the losses.

The resource-dependent province was already suffering from weak oil prices before wildfires destroyed parts of Fort McMurray. Although Alberta shed only 1,400 positions last month, over the year, full-time work declined by 5.4 per cent. The province’s jobless rate shot up to 8.6 per cent, the highest level in more than two decades.

Ontario, the country’s most populous province, saw 36,100 positions vanish in July with losses in educational services, public administration, construction, finance, insurance and real estate.

Across the country, the public sector shed 42,000 positions, with about half the losses due to a drop in public administration employment at the municipal and regional level.

Some economists speculated that the decline was due to the 2016 census, which was conducted earlier this year and boosted hiring.

But Statscan said that was not the case.

“The occupations related to census in federal public admin did not drive the decline,” said Andrew Fields, labour analyst with Statscan.

The landscape is indeed changing and the economy in Ontario generally not doing well. Small towns are also seeing the impact of the big box stores like WalMart decimating their business community. I was in Midland a few days ago. There are two malls on Penetanguishene Rd. south of Yonge St. One on the east side and one on the west. Mountainview Mall may as well be empty. Dollar store, Food Basics and a womens' clothing store is about all there is. The rest is empty and currently under construction. The other mall on the other side has a dollar store, Giant Tiger and Service Ontario. Almost forgot the sushi restaurant. Lots of empty space in both. Probably more empty than occupied.

Typically the last week of July first of August are the most popular for vacation and therefore the busiest in cottage country. We have been into a lot of our favourite eateries the last few weeks and found them to be far less busy than we expected and talking with the staff they are finding themselves a lot less busy than they expected and staff aren't getting the hours they normally would this time of year.

Just don't know what to tell if you can't see the forest from the trees.  There was no way regardless of who was PM that Canada was not going into a recession in 2009 when the global economy sank.  Canada did manage better than most other G8 countries and today it still stands in a better position.  That is until Trudope will again dig us deeper and deeper in debt when there is no recession.  Take a look at Ontario for a complete waste of a government.

Do you even know what percentage of Canada's economy is Oil and Gas?  Or do you just re-iterate soundbites from Mulcair?

You seem to forget that the economy collapsed essentially on a global level in 2008 and Canada came through it much better than most every other country around the world. I know... you like to think of Canada as being in isolation from the global economy even though it isn't. Just look at the impact that the British referendum has so far and will have on global economics.

Explain then how Canada came through a global economic crash better than the rest of the world if he couldn't manage the finances of a lemonade stand.

There are no excuses for the Cons or Fibs, just the state of the economy.  Federally we are doing quite well in Canada even with low priced eggs in one basket oil, Ontario not so much.  Well give it a few more years and we will be over the $trillion debt level soon enough.
