like I said you can't pass this test its too hard - going backwards to the methods that created this test in the first place isn't a plan - NO PLAN DOUG isn't going to fix anything.

I heard THE SUN AND FORD bash teachers many times, its there fault - how many can past the grade 9 test :dunno:  we don't speak about that do we - HARRIS had all the answers too yet here we are in the exact same spot - so your answer is to go back to just prior to Harris greatness :dunno:

SLOGAN MAN IS THE BEST he is going to fix hallway math   OPEN FOR MATH

Oh IRV can you show me where WYNNE cut MATH PROGRAMS like you are claiming ONEWAY

YES IRV I don't like the FORDS since I have known them for over 20 years - I was clear about that from day one

Who said anything about cuts, wrongway? :dunno: Like the article I posted above, she was urged to improve things but decided gender schooling was more important. How fucked is that, Trail, or do you support that decision? Tell me, how long have you been a school board employee? Judging by your posts, it is easy to see you don't like anything negative written about anything involved with education in this Province, even if it makes perfect sense. I can tell you from a personal standpoint, all teachers are not qualified to teach despite what their diploma reads. :news:

So what do teachers learn in teachers’ college? Not much about math. While Quebec teaching candidates usually get at least 140 hours hours of math training, many Ontario students get no more than 40 hours. Provincial math committees repeatedly urged the previous Liberal government to make reforms, but to no avail. Instead of adding math, Ms. Brown, says, the schools added courses in gender studies. That’s no surprise. For the past 15 years of Liberal government, education policy in Ontario has been excruciatingly progressive.

 NO STUDENTS ARE DENIED MATH CLASS AND IN PLACE GENDER STUDIES

That is just fucked up

Mike Harris brought in standardized testing to bring up the Math or Reading marks  - this was all that was needed for our students to achieve - BUT IT DID NOT WORK ONE BIT IS THE CONCLUSION

Marks have not improved over the past 22 years - TESTING WAS USELESS other than a tool to bash teachers for THE SUN

The very idea of teaching kids to pass one test isn't EDUCATING - teaching 2+2=4 without knowing why doesn't make a better student - Fact of the matter these countries that outperform us are learning Math in different ways than DOUGS TRIED AND TRUE

Here is the issue MATH ISN'T AS IMPORTANT AS READING SHAKESPEARE

  • 4 credits in English (1 credit per grade)*
  • 3 credits in mathematics (1 credit in Grade 11 or 12)
  • 2 credits in science
  • 1 credit in Canadian history
  • 1 credit in Canadian geography
  • 1 credit in the arts
  • 1 credit in health and physical education
  • 1 credit in French as a second language
  • 0.5 credit in career studies
  • 0.5 credit in civics

Why only 3 math credits needed :dunno:

The only class need to take every school year is ENGLISH :dunno:

No GENDER STUDY IS NEEDED

Blaming the TEACHERS in this case is like blaming you for our high hydro bills

IRV have you ever heard Adults talk how they don't need algebra in their life? they never use it  :dunno:

Myself MATH is EVERYTHING and the new way of teaching math is much better than 1960 methods IMO

So, despite the evidence that is right in front of you that Ontario students are falling further and further behind in math skills compared to the rest of the country, plus you have the good teachers saying things need to improve, what do you propose we do? Just leave things the way the are and let the students get further and further behind and become more disadvantaged/unprepared than kids from other Provinces or do you maybe look into things to see why this is happening and where improvements can be made?

Take Ford out of the equation and pretend someone you like is making improvements. What would you tell them, what areas for improvement would you suggest so we can get back on track like the rest of the country has, or would you just leave things the way they are and maybe add some further gender studies and just ignore the kids?

Let's hear your suggestions, Trail.

lol TEACHER are saying   do you honestly think anyone from Doug's gang spoke to even 1 teacher

The mark are not gong down they have been horrible since day one of this tEST

BOLD - your facts are alternative ones  Manitoba and Sask bring our stats down NOT ONTARIO

this is really irrelevant as Canada competes worldwide

Most kids are just waiting to DROP MATH this isn't new and has been common since the beginning of education in Canada - MATH ISN'T IMPORTANT to MOST PEOPLE just ask them.

So you ask what to do?

NOT INCREASE CLASS SIZES AS THIS HURTS LEARNING AT ALL LEVELS ( Ford is increasing them to help our students starting September)

REVIEW THE TEST FOR REASON WHY IT CAN'T BE PASSED BY MORE STUDENTS

What are your ideas IRV?  ask Doug

In typical, Fail, fashion, math isn't important. :wacko:No wonder you love the Libs like Wynnee and Trudope! They, like you, are about as bright as a 3 watt light bulb.  :snack:

You are fitting in with the FACTLESS people

Most people don't feel this way and don't like Math and say they don't need it other than basic adding and subtracting

Lets have a show of hands of people here that took grade 12 and 13 math

IRV keep cheering cuts to class to improve marks - it should work

1960 is gone IRV reverting back to those times in education isn't helping anyone.

The fact that our Students today are far more educated then just 20 years ago says alot about our system.  People like the NEW YOU love to bash every system we have from Education to Health Care with no plan other than lets do what we used to od in the good ole days

If teachers are so bad IRV why are other marks increasing while Math isn't :dunno:   Teachers fault right?  or is it that we don't teach like 1960 anymore :dunno:

Why is it that grade 3 pass and more fail grade 6 testing :dunno:  Teachers faults

Why do boys generally do better in Math then Girls?  ask DOUG he knows

Why do Girls in general do better in English than Boys do?

Simpletons believe there is a direct answer to this Math problem

Biggest factor so far is PARENTS can't help their kids because they can't  do simple math, YES IRV your generation isn't very good at math - I wonder why

Society won't accept that.  So they changed the curriculum to help the girls boost their math marks at the expense of the boys.

Dude if your child is having MATH trouble I suggest helping them and if you can't hire someone that can,,,,,, Simple

TESTING teacher what 2+2 equals isn't going to help your child

Its hard for sure but far from impossible

Too bad this isn't a concern as we are only concerned with grade 6 MATH testing results - we must increase these marks  as this is what is important today

I wonder if DOUG Is gong to write a SAT type test of our students - WHAT A WASTE THAT IS IN THE USA   fuckers are near the worst in the world in education

How old are your kids Fail?

My daughters are 17 and 19.

I can remember the schools dropping simple spelling and simple math as I did homework with my daughters regularly.

I realize it must of been tough not understanding it.

this is one reason Japan and other place are advancing ahead of us, but lets go back to 1960 tried and true method of math

Question is did your kids fare okay in Math YES or NO?  I am going to assume they did okay

Funny you mentioned Spelling - today actually trying to memorize the word is the best ( opposite of math) way since sounding out words is very difficult with the English language

dough - cough

Try and sound those out

I took grade 12/13 math in classes of 30/35 students. Math is very important if you intend to compete with the rest of the world. Complacency & status quo aren't options if you want to succeed and excel!

Don't be silly, Muskoka, Trail says math is unimportant and not needed so why try to improve it here in Ontario. :news:
