You did the eye test and the written test. If you passed that then you went to the course beside the building. If you were able to navigate that then they took you out on the road. Like you I had to do the same, parallel park, 3 way turn, make sure I did everything right like signalling, no rolling stops, checking mirrors etc. One of my friends didn't get his license the first time and had to go back.
