According to Morningstar 20.

I know it’s been going on forever but I find it interesting that if you bought the whole company, providing their profits didn’t change, it would take 20 years to get your money back.

If you bought a business that isn’t publicly traded you would pay between 3 and 5 times EBITDA.

Junior achievers would call that a swell investment.

Private businesses can provide much better returns but then you are usually very hands on.  I'm OK with doubling mine in 5 years, although I don't expect that to repeat, but I target 8.

Your long term plan is to double your investments in 5-8 years buying shares in companies who’s value based on profit will double in 20.

Do you see much wrong with that?

Yes, I have a lot of money invested in his three funds.

The fund you highlighted started after the crash. I find mutual funds tend to do that after s good crash. Reset low in order to look better. But if you bought Canadian bank stocks after the crash, wouldn’t the returns after dividends been better than his fund after mer?

Huh?  Are you high?

First off he started Special Situations in April 2007, so it went through the crash and has averaged 15% since inception.  There aren't too many out there that can say that.

If only I bought at the very very bottom.  He took over Canadian Growth in 2011 and Global Innovators started in Nov 2017.
