Now, why do the officers automatically assume he was stealing?  Maybe he was collecting for Toy Mountain.  I thought St Onge always had their stuff penned in with trucks, retaining rocks, etc.

Barrie police arrested a 35-year-old Toronto man after he allegedly tried to escape officers by using pepper spray on them.

The suspect was first confronted at St. Onge Recreation on Hart Drive on Dec. 19 at about 3 a.m.

An officer approached a man riding a stolen snowmobile and was immediately pepper sprayed in the face.

The man jumped off the snowmobile and fled on foot, with the officer giving chase the best he could with limited vision.

The officer caught up with the man, who continued to resist arrest, breaking free from the officer a second time.

The suspect ran south down Hart Drive as additional officers arrived. As they approached the man, he attempted unsuccessfully to pepper spray them as well, Barrie police say.

The man repetitively provided police with a name that appeared suspicious.

Officers used a police dog to track the path of the accused and found break and enter tools as well as a 2017 GMC pickup truck stolen from Toronto. Further investigation revealed the man was using the name and fraudulently obtained identification of his brother.

The suspect is charged with breaking and entering, mischief, possession of break-in instruments, theft over $5,000, administering a noxious substance, assault with a weapon, resisting arrest, possession of stolen property, attempting to obstruct an officer, personation with intent, breach of recognizance, breach of an undertaking and breach of probation.
