they all had a wood core in the transom some in the stringers also. use a wooden hammer handle to sound the hull. if its soft it will sound different. i would at least reseal the drain plug and any screws for a transducer.. use 3m 5200. if thats a 185 that was rated at the crank not the prop. the cross flow pretty much has the intake and exhaust port across from each other. a high dome on one side of the piston makes it all work. fuel burn wot close to 20 gph? if it turns out you really like the boat look around for a 150 etec. quite no smoke and burn half the fuel

Was thinking a Merc if i need to replace the motor someday

We sure had a lot of fun with this bad boy on the lake back in the day, 1974 Hydrostream with a 454cc chev, my friend owned it. It was to loud for our 300 acre lake.

The lake I'll be on for camping is 29 miles long and that looks like a real fast boat pretty sweet

I was eyeballing a center console scorpion a few years ago. Like most old boats they have lot of wood and are prone to rotting but who cares. Have fun until the transom separates and try to make its last run aimed at shore so you don’t have to swim lol

I only have wood trim the rest is all fiberglass

Thats sweet man , looks like she can take some chop. Nice deep V in the front. and Chis Crafts are obviously well built boats :bc:

Thank you she didn't run good when I first got her and then I change the water fuel separator filter which was full of particles and crap and put 60 gallons of non-ethanol High test in her tank and she ran great. I only paid $1,500 bucks for boat and trailer.

In an old cross flow cement mixer I guess it doesn't matter much. The old cross flows carbon the top ring no matter what oil you run through them.

Mine runs perfect you mean the vro engine? Because mine is a vro engine don't know much about them yet but I know I like the one I have so far
