  1. Seems to me that he was going to fast at night, overdriving his headlight. By the time he saw the helo, he was too close to stop. Same thing could have happened with a moose. Who would he sue then?
  2. Nothing wrong with solar. But - understand the if we put panels on every house in the country we would be able to shutter exactly 0 power plants. Until the panels generate power at night, we can't eliminate anything, unless there is a good sized battery bank in every house, and enough solar collection to run the house during the day, and charge the batteries enough to get through the night. Not to mention the lower energy collection of rainy-snowy-cloudy days.
  3. Mine was a '68 Beetle. Upgraded to a '69 Mustang as soon as it got cold, no heat in the VW, don't even think about defrosting the window. My brother-in-law has an 87 Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe (Nascar style rear window) in his garage. Like brand new, I think it has less then 10,000 miles on it. Doesn't come out much. I had one of those for a while, but it wasn't in great shape, needed pretty much everything when I got rid of it.
  4. She may endorse him, but probably late in the cycle. The idea of cancelling someone or something is much stronger now than it was 4 years ago, and Trump will go after her much harder if she speaks out early. I'm guessing she will figure that out, and 'Shut up and sing'. She has much more to lose than she has to gain be getting involved with this stuff.
  5. Like her or not, I think she is pretty smart, and has some smart people around her. My guess is that she will stay quiet for the most part concerning the election. She saw what happened to Bud Light, just like the rest of us. She first goal is to sell records and concert tickets, and likely knows to keep a low profile on the political stuff. We'll see...
  6. Voting day is a national holiday in lots of countries, I think they have the right idea. Keep it on a Tuesday, so it doesn't turn into a long weekend for vacations like Memorial Day or Labor Day. I would think we would get a higher proportion of people to show up and vote, which would be good. Maybe you don't get paid for the day unless you show up to work the next day with one of those 'I voted' stickers???
  7. Its the interest on the loans that is a killer. We has two loans to help out kids out (they had loans too), we make the payments for years, but the principle never went down. It looked like we would be paying forever. We wound up transferring those loans to a second mortgage. Fixed interest, fixed number of payments. We are almost done, and can put it behind us. I don't like the idea of load forgiveness, but if the government said that everyone pays the principle, interest free, I could live with that.
  8. Yup, a '68. Sold it around 2000. We bought it in 1992 with 30K miles on it. Daily driver from May to November for 10 years, lots of cruise nights and some shows along the way. Took second place in it's class at a Pontiac National show one year. Sold it with about 65K on the clock, time to change hobbies, bought a sled. Had some good times with it, was always reliable.
  9. You have to remember, in NH 30% are registered democrats 30% are registered republicans 40% are independent The independents can show up at the polls, and ask for a republican ballot. Then then can vote for Halely, just to be a vote against Trump. I think you may see enough of that today to make it somewhat close. There are just a lot of people who really don't like Trump, regardless of what the pro Trump side thinks.
  10. My brother has one like that. Same color, a Big Horn. Has treated him will. I drove it last spring, it is more refined compared to my 2017 (gen 4) Big Horn. FWIW - My 2017 has essentially the same drive train, and at 90,000 miles has not missed a beat, other than tires, brakes, and two batteries (second one went into the truck an hour ago).
  11. If she is in the house, and the dispatcher is at a desk someplace (I would think), why is the recording from a car/truck/whatever? Something fishy about this recording.
  12. My son runs a company. They interviewed a young person for a job recently. During the interview, the job seeker mentioned that they didn't see any gender neutral bathrooms in the building. The manager asked my son if they should hire the candidate. He told them that you can hire the person if you want to, but you won't be able to fire them if they don't work out, so be careful. Job seeker is still seeking as far as I know. Why would anyone ask that question during in interview???
  13. Couple of trees at my house, my wife likes to put them up every year. There are some sled ornaments, I probably missed some of the ones on the tree. and other Christmas stuff around, My granddaughter gave me the Lego set last week.
  14. That guy is useless as mammory glands on a bull. (Because we can't say tits at work any more...)
  15. My father-in-laws favorite was Can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit.
  16. Seems do me if she did ask these companies for their algorithms, they would tell her to pound sand. I don't think she can force it, particularly for Tic Tok, since they are not an American company. Same for verifying names, I don't see it happening, especially on day one. All these candidates promise to do this or that on day one, would be a very busy day, They would be lucky to get through most of it in a year.
  17. My daughter has a Mitsubishi Outlander that works like this. Batteries are smaller, it has a 20 - 25 mile range on electric. Then the gas motor starts, and she can go till she runs out of gas. It's AWD, with an electric motor front and back. No transmission, gas motor only charges. For running around town, taking kids to school, or going to the office, she rarely needs the gas motor. It has been reliable for four years, and drives very much like any other car, but quiet. It works very well for her needs.
  18. Ran across this on another forum. Simple message, could clear up a lot of noise about the crap that happens before a sports event. https://amazingpandph.com/disrespected-anthem/
  19. 2012 TZ1Touring for me, and a 2003 Polaris Trail Touring 550 as a backup. The Arctic Cat isn't new, but has only about 2000 miles on it, and is really clean. Runs fine. My wife rides with me sometimes, when she doesn't, I take the back seat off and cruise the trails in comfort. Just don't get it stuck, it is a heavy bugger.
  20. My kids were working for tips in the restaurant. With the tips, they were making $12 - 14 an hour as I remember, in the 2006 - 20012 time frame. A good step better than minimum wage at that time, and they learned valuable lessons about customer service, dealing with people, what it's like to have a job, and personal responsibility. Most of that is worth more than the money they made in my opinion. We had dinner at that restaurant a few weeks back, with my daughter. The owner stopped by, and had some really nice things to say about her and her brother during their time there. The tipped minimum wage is pretty meaningless in a restaurant, the waitstaff makes most of their money on tips. In fact - not to change the subject - I think its wrong for all of the coffee shops, where the staff gets full minimum wage, probably more, then asks for a 10 - 20% tip on top of that. It becomes unfair to real waitstaff, and is a money grab.
  21. My kids waited tables at the local family restaurant when they were in high school. It wasn't the kind of place where you had a 'bar full of grown half drunk men' to be concerned about. If someone (typically a mom or dad eating with their family) wanted a beer or a glass of wine, my kids could take the order, and drop it at the bar. Then, another server had to pick it up from the bar and carry it to the table. Not a lot of value added at that point if you ask me. I would not have a problem with my kids delivering alcohol in that scenario. If they ever felt uncomfortable, they could always ask someone older to deliver the drinke. Even dumber - Some grocery stores here in Mass sell wine and beer. If I buy a six pack (no, not Bud Light...), along with all my other groceries, the high schooler at the register has to stop, call someone over 21 to pass the six pack across the bar code scanner, and put it in my cart. That seems pretty silly to me. Again, if someone may be underage, or give the cashier a hard time, there are plenty of 'adults' around to step in as needed. I don't see any of this turning kids into alcoholics.
  22. There will be much less of that going on if there are term limits. Not as much time to get into the favors game.
  23. There was a time where someone like that would typically be in an 'institution'. They were sequestered away there, and could not hurt anyone. Downside of that is that they were sometimes abused in those places, and it's like being put in prison before a crime is committed, not an easy thing to justify today.
  24. They are never going to cut their own throats. I would like to see a plan where anyone currently in office can stay as long as they get reelected. But - any new Congressman or Senator elected after 2024 can serve two terms in the senate, 4 terms in congress. Then they are done. I think there could be a chance of a plan like that passing, even though I agree it it isn't optimal.
