    Sledding Winter 19

Had a great ride yesterday, trails and weather was perfect. We unloaded in DeepRiver and plan was to take the A Trail to Matawa for lunch and then back taking some of the Missing Link loops. We were on the trails at 8:30 under partly cloudy and trails were hard as rock. If you didn’t have scratchers you would be in trouble. It didn’t take long for it to be pure sun and the trails softened up nicely. A little beach visit in Stonecliffe. Climbed a couple of Hydro line shouts. Sun setting close to being back in Deep River. A great trail, as to be one of the best is the 197 loop, fast and long sweepers. Great day, almost done for the season two more rides planned for the season.

You guys give up sledding way to early, March and April are the best months to ride. Last year I sledder in Quebec mid May. Boating season only gets good at the end of June. This was May 13th last year, sunny and 15 degrees.

Anyone riding this week? My plan is to trailer to Deep River late Thursday, ride Thursday night and Friday. By the looks of the weather coming on Saturday, this will be it for Ontario other than the far north.

I went for rip today before taking Spring Break vaca with the family. Left home from Stittsville (Ottawa west), onto Mississippi Lake, then trail to Clayton lake look -out, to White Lake, Pakenham for lunch at The Bridge then ripped it back home. 220km of awesome trails.

    Sledding Winter 19

It was really good but we only rode on Friday as the drive up Thursday was insane with the lake effect. Never seen it snow like that before. We stayed at the Ridge View in Lowville which is a great spot to stage from. I didn't see any of the horror stories of what everyone talks about with Tug Hill. Trails were very nice considering what they had to deal with in regards to the snow as it easily snowed 2 to 4 feet. A few pics from Friday... we did about 260km for the day.
  8. So just came back from riding in NY at Tug Hill. We drove up Thursday afternoon and the lake effect was insane. They were closing I81 just as we got through. We could not see a thing and drove maybe 20km/hr with our heads out the window just to see the pickets to make our way down the highway lol. i checked our lights on your recommendation Irv and all was good. They did not ice up. The tail lights on the truck were worse.

This year myself and three other buds we bought NY State passes for a change instead of Quebec passes. Tug Hill is less than an hour and half from us. Heading there for the first time on Thursday and Friday. We heard all the horror stories of the traffic and trails being beaten to hell but hope riding during the week might be different. Has anyone ridden there and can give some insight?
  10. Are loud exhausts really the cause of our trails being closed? I don't think so. Just by the law stating they are illegal and you can be ticketed is enough of a threat for most people not to have one. There are loud exhausts out there but not a lot and not enough to actually close trails. Our biggest problems with trails closing is people not respecting the land. Not staying on the trail and the garage they leave or the BRP parts being left there. I had to throw in the last one being a Yami guy. I also think some landowners are just tired of having the trail on their property. When confronted by the club to why they don't want it... it's just an excuse they give to have the club leave them alone.
  11. Post your trips or day rides. This was my third day ride of the year. We trailered to Arnprior (30min from home) and rode through White Lake, up to Calabogie where we looped around Norcan Lake up around the dam and then into Calabogie and had lunch at Rednecks. From there we headed down towards Renfrew, Cobden and then back to Arnprior. Not huge ride 255 km but a nice one and snow coverage is pretty good. The new railbed trail from Renfrew and Arnprior trail 106 that is right next to the Ottawa River is actually very nice. The storm this weekend is giving us a foot of snow and will be able to leave from home.
  12. I haven't driven in snow storm with them yet but thanks for the heads up. I will report back if it happens or not on the trailer.
  13. I just bought a Crossover Trailer just before Christmas. I did quite a bit of research on them and believe it or not there are a lot of differences. I ended up buying a Mission for $6200.00 Here are the differences between the Mission and the Excalibur and Avalanche (Excalibur and Avalanche are the same when it comes to quality) The deck on the Avalanche is smaller than the Mission, 10' compare to 11' Avalanche is 2 x 3 inch aluminum tubing compared to 2 x 5 inch tubing on the Mission. Mission has LED lights, Stainless grease able hinges and a higher quality tires. Also the mission is all seamless and not corregated (looks like siding). With my price they threw in the track matts and a spare tire.

We may have crossed paths somewhere along the way. I unloaded in Arnprior ran the new trail along the Ottawa River to Renfrew, D'acre to Eganville for lunch at the Rio, then over Golden Lake past the Sands to Pembroke back to Arnprior. Trails were flat and awesome with good snow. The only complaint is Pembroke to Arnprior is all Railbed!!
  15. Yah but not everyone wants to marry their sister. 😜
  16. I saw this on Kijiji when looking for a CR125 for my son. It was on the list of ones I was going to contact. I ended up driving to Oakville and picking up a 2004 CR125. I liked the fact you had all those spare parts, but it was a little more than I wanted to spend. Nice set up, good luck with the sale.

Wife finally agreed to go for a ride today. No doubt this will be the last ride in my area for the season. Rode to Calabogie for lunch at Rednecks Bistro. Nice place.

I heard of someone doing it before but they were all 121's and the skis had to come off two of them. Let us know if it worked.

    Winter 2018

Rode Thursday night 150km out of Stittsville, Richmond and North Gower. Then an out the door early from Stiitsvillle on Friday. Rode to North Gower to meet up with three others, Smith Falls, Perth, Lanark up to Wheelers for Pancakes and sausages. Wheelers is an amazing spot but the 20km in and out of there is pure hell. Tight twisty trails, not my kind of riding. Thinking of a two day saddle bag ride out of my place for Thursday and Friday this week. Can anyone comment on how the trails are like in the Bancroft area or maybe Huntsville?

We drove up Wednesday and stayed at the Quality Inn right in town. Thursday we rode 440km to Saint Michel des Saints and spent the night there at Le Central, rode back Friday and trucked home Friday night. Thursday nights is a must at La Central.
