Its unfortunate that the H1B visa program is negatively affecting you wife and some others. Overall though I think its a good thing. We have a major shortage of high skill individuals in this country and allowing the best and brightest and most educated immigrants to come here and work is a good thing overall. There should be some safeguards in place to make sure the Visa holders arent displacing american workers. Overall though what your wifes company is doing is a classic tactic of corporate america.......fire older more expensive employees and replace them with younger cheaper ones. I dont think coddling is a partisan thing. Parents of all types in our generation have been coddling and cuddling and saying yes to everything and teaching their kids they are special etc etc etc. Literally from day one with my kid we did things to prepare her for disappointment and how to deal with not getting what you want. Let new born babies cry if there is nothing wrong. They do not need to be picked up every time they cry. Say no often when children ask for things. They need to hear the word no....it conditions them to understand they wont get everything they want later in life. Poke fun at your kids and embarrass them from time to time. I'm not saying abuse them emotionally but teaching someone to laugh at themselves from time to time is healthy. Teach kids to fail gracefully......its something to learn from not to be ashamed of. I could go on for days but what it boils down to is you get out what you put in .......invest some time in your kids. Enough of the fucking TV or now the electronics being the babysitter for 15 years. Parents that take an active role in their kids ....
