What's everyone doing this weekend? I was supposed to play in a golf tournament tomorrow but heavy rain is a certainty so it's canceled. Just hanging out on my patio enjoying the nice weather tonight. Sunday I am headed to the Black Hills for some work meetings. As some of you may recall I finished a tech certification this Spring that I was working on over the winter. The plan was to use it to secure a new job or a pay raise at my current job. About a month ago, I applied for a position at a regional ISP and was offered the job early this week at a substantial increase over what I'm making at my current job. I was all set to take that position until my current employer made me an offer that was close enough to keep me here. Their offer took me by surprise as only a couple guys on the team are making that amount and they have alot more time in the company than I do. Nice to see that me busting my ass has not gone unnoticed. Today I am reaping the rewards.

Man that is a sweet rig, color and all. Every truck I’ve had was either black or white. I’ll be needing a new truck soon and I’m astonished at the prices. Terrible investments too. We paid $35k for our 2003 expedition. 14 years, 170k miles, rusted out components later, o doubt I could get $2000 for it. Now, expeditions are in the $50k range. I mowed the lawn today, and after doing so I sat down and had a cold beer. The day was really quite beautiful, and the drink facilitated some deep thinking. My wife walked by and asked me what I was doing, and I said, "Nothing." The reason I said "nothing" instead of saying "just thinking" is because she then would have asked, "About what?" At that point I would have had to explain that men are deep thinkers about various topics, which would lead to other questions. Finally I pondered an age old question: Is giving birth more painful than getting kicked in the nuts? Women always maintain that giving birth is way more painful than a guy getting kicked in the nuts, but how could they know? Well, after another beer, and some more heavy deductive thinking, I have come up with an answer to that question. Getting kicked in the nuts is more painful than having a baby, and even though I obviously couldn't really know, here is the reason for my conclusion. A year or so after giving birth, a woman will often say, "It might be nice to have another child." On the other hand, you never hear a guy say, "You know, I think I would like another kick in the nuts." I rest my case. Time for another beer and then maybe a nap.

Yes, I knew with how my workplace is that only a competing offer was going to give me a chance to get to the number I was aiming for. I would have gladly went to work for the other company though as well. Its nice when shit works out how you planned.
